Brown-Eyed People Are Smarter [Video]

Screen Shot 2013-07-02 at 12.52.24 PMWhen I was in grade school, our teacher told us that a new study had shown that brown-eyed people are better and smarter than blue-eyed people.

I remember thinking, “Sounds about right.” My eyes are brown.

I assume my teacher based her experiment on 3rd-grade-teacher Jane Elliott’s 1968 classroom experiment.

Watch the video. The insight into discrimination is mind-blowing. I remember how quickly I bought in to the experiment. Later, when the roles were reversed and we were told that blue-eyed people were actually better and smarter, I felt so sad. I immediately thought: “THAT FIGURES. No wonder they’re such snobs.”

See for yourself how Jane Elliott’s students reacted.
