Welcome to the Babble Entertainment Advent Calendar! Every day between now and Christmas we will treat you with fun facts and information about this day in entertainment history.
The first day of December is a great day for birthdays in the entertainment world.
Woody Allen, who may or may not have just been banned from eating in the VIP room by the owner of the Knicks, is turning 78 today. He is currently in post-production on his latest film, Magic in the Moonlight.
Always there for us in some of our favorite movie tear-jerkers, the divine Miss M (Bette Midler) is 68 today. Send her a happy birthday message on Twitter. If you tell her how you did something to make the planet better today you will be “The Wind Beneath Her Winds.”
Gone too soon is comic and actor Richard Pryor. He was born on this day in 1940 and died just a few days after turning 65 years old. Last month, brothers David Henry and Joe Henry, published a captivating biography of the star, Furious Cool: Richard Pryor and the World That Made Him. This book is something to think about when you are looking for the perfect gift to an appreciator of old school.
128 years ago some lucky person enjoyed the very first ever sip of Dr. Pepper. The soft drink made its debut in 1885 and has been enjoying being NOT cola ever since. My favorite instance of Dr. Pepper in film is the scene in Forrest Gump where he realizes it is an open bar at the White House. Forrest pounds bottle after bottle and when it’s finally time to meet JFK he tells him, “I gotta pee.”
Rosa Parks Day
