This year Entertainment Weekly had the good sense to give Sandra Bullock the title for two spectacular — and completely different — performances. The first as Melissa McCarthy’s partner in The Heat and more recently as the grieving astronaut alongside George Clooney in Gravity.
It seems nearly impossible that the same person could canvas the comic/drama spectrum the way she has, and here’s the thing … this is the second time she’s accomplished such a feat.
Back in 2009, when Sandra had a mega-year with The Proposal and the Oscar-nominated The Blind Side, she was EW’s Entertainer of the Year for the first time.
Her work should (and can) stand on its own, for sure. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that earning this title while her personal life is far from conventional and storybook makes me that much more respectful of her choices.
EW all but said as much with their explanation: ”Bullock’s tremendous talent and range — to say nothing of the woman’s trademark grace and good humor in good times and bad — is what earned her the top spot on our annual list of the most exciting performer’s in 2013.”
If there was an award for the Hollywood star we’d most like to be BFFs with, I think Sandra would win that one, too.
