Get Your Playlists Ready: 30 New Music Albums This Fall

janelle-monaeIf you’re in the mood for new music, this season has you covered.

This week saw new CD releases from Sheryl Crow, Arctic Monkeys, Janelle Monae, and Keith Urban, among others, and it’s not even officially fall yet.

As the calendar turns in the coming weeks, heavy-hitters like Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus (heard about her lately?), Paul McCartney, and Pearl Jam will drop new records, too.

I’m excited about this, because I have to admit that I’ve been in a bit of a musical rut. This summer was about “Blurred Lines” controversy and Daft Punk on repeat over here. (I couldn’t help it. “Get Lucky” was catchy!) But otherwise, not much grabbed me, and I spent a lot of time going back over old playlists, especially songs that are good to write and drive to. Way too much work and not enough lazy, hazy days was the way of my summer, and it showed in the music.

But this fall is promising, so I’m optimistic that I’m on deck for a delayed musical vacation. I’m a diehard Elton John fan, so I’m excited about his new record, and I’m all about Cher’s new song, I admit it. Like I said, no vacation to speak of lately, so I have to find the fun where I can get it. Sometimes this means chair dancing, and Cher provides the perfect soundtrack as usual. And if that isn’t enough? Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will keep me busy, and I’m liking what I’m hearing off of that record so far. I’m also really curious about the new music on the TLC collection due in October. It’s still strange to live in a world without Left Eye, and I’ll have to admit as a huge fan that I’m nervous about what will likely be a very different sound, but the show must go on, and it’ll be good to hear from T-Boz and Chilli again.

I’m highlighting new releases from dance, pop, folk, country, metal, and hip-hop, because if you ask me what kind of music I listen to, my only answer is “good.” I hope you’ll find something on this list that you like, or will at least like to sample.

What are you listening to this fall?
