Harry Potter Stamps Are Here! Plus 16 of Our Favorites from Pop Culture

harry-potter-stamps-smallSending out holiday cards this year? You can stamp them up with Harry Potter.

Yes. Whether you’re getting in touch for Thanksgivukkah, Christmas or New Years, the post office has released four Harry Potter-themed stamps — taken from stills from the movie — for your November-December sending needs.

You guys, I am so excited. I’m a huge fan of snail mail — you know, the kind that comes on paper and into the actual box at your house? Sometimes with all the digital material that blankets my days, I’m in need of some real, live paper to get my hands on. Throw in some red and green markers and a fresh, blank card, and I lose my mind a little. Not that I always get my cards out, you see, but I sure do appreciate it when you do, so get to work. (Please.)

Also, like many, many of my fellow Muggles (with maybe a dash of wizard, but I’ll never tell), I love Harry Potter. I have read all of the books and seen all of the movies at least once. I identify deeply with Hermione and ignore all quizzes that indicate that I’m anything but a Gryffindor. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is on my shortlist of dream destinations (please someone take Aunt Laurie there … PLEASE). Such a fan. So if you combine my love for snail mail with a side of HP, I am doubly happy, as I am when any of my favorite things get together.dumbledore-stamp

Want to know what comes in your Harry Potter stamp stash? The packaging itself is so fancy! Let’s let the United States Postal Service clear that up for us:

The folded booklet has five pages. The front cover features the title Harry Potter, with an image of Harry playing Quidditch, the beloved wizarding sport. The back cover has a picture of a young Harry in class, taking notes with his quill; the title Harry Potter is centered under the picture. When the booklet is opened, an illustration of Hogwarts covers two pages on the back, and selvage text appears on the last page. Inside there are five groupings of four stamps, each grouping set on its own page. Each set of four stamps, featuring stills from the Warner Bros. movies, surrounds the red wax seal of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

That is a lot of Harry Potter stamp action. Any regular old fan will love it, especially at holiday time, but I’m betting that collectors of stamps or Harry Potter memorabilia will be especially happy about this. I don’t know about you, but I’m already getting my owl prepared; there are some fancy-stamped cards to mail.

There have been many stamps over the years commemorating iconic films, television shows, and music. Let’s take a look at some of the best.
