It’s been hard to read the news for the last 24 hours. I haven’t been able to process much of what has been happening in Boston, but I know that regardless it can never make sense. How can it?
In looking for some small pocket of good news I read about Caroline Shaw. Caroline is a thirty year old composer, violinist and singer. She is the youngest composer to have ever been awarded a Pulitzer and one of only a few women to receive the honor.
On her site Caroline writes, “Partita is a simple piece. Born of a love of surface and structure, of the human voice, of dancing and tired ligaments, of music, and of our basic desire to draw a line from one point to another.”
It’s truly lovely.
