Jada Pinkett Smith on the Only Reason She'd Leave WillSarah Bernard
The power couple first met more than two decades ago when Will was ruling the sitcom world with “The Fresh Prince or Bel-Air.” Jada auditioned to play his girlfriend but producers considered her too short. Ha.
In the July issue of Redbook, the incredibly private star opens up about her marriage and her new role as producer of Queen Latifah’s new talk show which debuts in September.
You would expect the “special” moments in their relationships to be the big, glitzy ones like say, the Oscars, or watching their fashionista/popstar daughter Willow perform or hitting the red carpet for movie premieres like “After Earth,” the sci-fi thriller that Will and Jayden headline together. Not so. Jada says she and Will manage to “find magic in the mundane” like, for example, driving to pick Willow up from a friend’s house and “enjoying that ride together.”
She talks about the fact that she is not immune to tabloid rumors, however. “I have been affected by gossip and I know people who have been, too. I’ve seen marriages destroyed by gossip,” she says, “It is cruel.”
Like any celebrity power couple, the Smiths routinely face their share of separation rumors. Jada also discusses the only reason she would ever consider divorce. “What is the thing that Will could do to make me not love him? That would made me abandon him?” she says, “I can’t think of one. I’m sorry. Except if he did something bad to the kids — now we’ve got a problem.”
