Fatherhood has obviously been on Jay-Z’s mind of late so it’s no surprise that a track on his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail called “Jay-Z Blue” is about his feelings on the subject. His pretty deep feelings, that is. There’s the fear that all first-time fathers have, and then there’s the irony that he grew up without his own dad around to show him how to be a parent and how to treat women. Now, of course, life has brought him Baby Blue. “My karma,” he says, “the two things I need, I don’t have, right? And I have a daughter.” “It’s the paranoia of not being a great dad.”
Jay explains these things to the album’s producer Rick Rubin in the video below. Leave it to Jay to even come up with a creative way to get the music to the masses. Magna Carta Holy Grail officially drops on July 6th, but the first million Samsung Galaxy users who download the Magna Carta app on the Google Play store will get all of the songs for free, three days before the rest of the world! A little music for your July 4th party.
