Julianne Moore’s ginger hair and porcelain skin have not always been her favorite features. As a child she was teased and called “Freckle-face strawberry.” (Who’s laughing now, Julianne Moore’s grade school friends!) She uses the nickname in her children’s book, Freckleface Strawberry.
The inspiration for her children’s book was her 7-year-old son who felt self-conscious about his big teeth and ears after getting a haircut. This is the stuff of childhood. My own son covered his new buzz-cut with his hands for the first couple of WEEKS of kindergarten. Kids are weird—and we’ve all been there.
Moore is not the first celebrity mom or dad who has been inspired to write books for children. Check out these children’s books by celebrity authors including Will Smith, Madonna, and Tim McGraw.
