Lost Heath Ledger Interview Reveals Happy, Thoughtful Actor with a Lot of Nervous EnergyKacy Faulconer
He’s been gone for six years. Heath Ledger’s tragic overdose at the age of 28 cut short a promising career. Moreover, we lost a person who was — by all accounts — a doting dad and very nice guy. What a sad loss.
But we can turn the clock back to 2005, just before Brokeback Mountain was released, thanks to this lost interview — newly animated — from Blank on Blank.
Christine Pines interviewed Ledger for Entertainment Weekly while they strolled through his Brooklyn neighborhood. He talks about holing up with new love Michelle Williams in a little trailer during the filming of Brokeback. This was right after his daughter Matilda had been born, before his split with Michelle, and before the depression/downward spiral (no one knows for sure) that led to his accidental overdose.
The interview confirms his happiness and the satisfaction he felt with his home life. He says:
“We’re actors at the end of the day. I don’t take it home with me. My experience outside of work, I love … when I hear wrap, it’s the most exciting part of my day. I’m the first to have my make-up off, in the car, out. I’ve gotta go home. I want to get back to my life. I love it back there.”
Watch this animated version of the interview to hear more about the charming time Michelle and Heath spent living in a trailer on set and to hear Heath Ledger’s take on role-playing. Watch until the end to find out the unusual thing Heath Ledger saw Ang Lee eat.
