The First Family arrived in Senegal today, and First Lady Michelle Obama documented the historic trip with her very first photos and videos on Instagram. The account is run by her office, of course, but there are — and will continue to be –personal posts from Michelle signed “-mo.” From poignant shots of historic sights to school visits with her daughters, Malia and Sasha, check out Michelle’s introductory posts, and join the (as of this writing) 188,601 folks who have already followed her!
(Is it shameful to say that I also love to see her clothes? Classy, fun, and on-trend as ever.)
Michelle’s First Post 1 of 7
The caption for this beautiful pic reads, "My first instagram! So inspired and so impressed by these extraordinary young women. -mo #FLOTUSinAfrica." That's First Daughter Malia smiling on the upper left in the black cardigan. This is from a visit to a middle school in Dakar.
A Dancing Welcome 2 of 7
Michelle's second post was a short video clip of students dancing during a welcoming ceremony.
Meeting Students 3 of 7
The caption reads, "You all are role models for my daughters, which is why I brought them here today - so that they could be inspired by you just like I am. - First Lady Michelle Obama at MLK Middle School in Dakar. #FLOTUSinAfrica."
Meeting Local Artists 4 of 7
Perhaps Michelle has finally found her fashion match. "Meeting local artists on Goree Island. #FLOTUSinAFRICA," was the message to go along with the photo.
Goree Island 5 of 7
A shot of the Door of No Return on Goree Island documented the Obamas' emotional visit to a slave house. The door is the point on the island from which Africans were sent to America and into a life of servitude.
Greeting the People 6 of 7
So many hands. Here in another video Michelle is greeting the well-wishers on Goree Island.
