Big casting news from PBS today!

Paul Giamatti joins Downton Abbey

According to PBS, “Giamatti will play Cora’s maverick, playboy brother Harold.”

One of the busiest actors around, Paul is no stranger to period dramas. In 2008 he won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of the title character in HBO’s miniseries John Adams.

It will be a treat to see what he does in Downton Abbey, especially as he will be performing alongside the brilliant Shirley MacLaine, who will continue her role as Cora’s mother. What makes it especially exciting is the promise from Executive Producer and Carnival Films Managing Director Gareth Neame who, according to TVLine, says, “Giamatti and MacLaine will ‘upset the Grantham’s apple cart’ in the finale.”

I’m still in shock over the finale of season three and can not wait for the next season to begin. I’m going to have to make do with epic repeat viewings of seasons one through three though, as season four doesn’t air in the United States until January 5, 2014.

(Season four airs this Fall in the UK, so perhaps our Suzanne Cowie will invite me over?? HINT HINT!)
