This one is hard to believe. We’ve seen photo after photo of Pink as a doting mom who takes 2-year-old Willow Sage on tour, to the playground — well, everywhere.
But when Pink, 33, began her relationship with husband Carey Hart, she admits she wasn’t sure having kids was for her. At least in part because she had a difficult relationship with her own mother.
“I didn’t want kids,” she told GQ Australia, “I was terrified.”
It’s an interesting thing to admit since babies are the ultimate status symbol in Celebrityland these days. But her ambivalence — and her honesty about her ambivalence — is something that I think women can really relate to and appreciate.
One of the reasons Pink’s fans love her so much is because she’s always tremendously honest in her song writing and in her presentation. She doesn’t act like a diva. She’s talked about her drug abuse, her not-always-smooth relationship with Carey, and taking her time to lose 55-pounds of baby weight.
She’s also honest about the good times. To her surprise and delight, she says, being a mom is “so rad” and that Willow is “the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.”
For one thing, it gives her a built-in audience. Says Pink, “Now I have someone to sing goofy-ass songs to all day and she likes it. She’s not judging me. She’s probably the only person who doesn’t judge me.”
