Simon Cowell Says He's "Proud to Be a Dad"

Simon Cowell arrives at the world film premiere of 'One Direction - This Is Us', held at London's Empire Leicester SquareFor the first time since the news broke, Simon Cowell shared his thoughts on impending fatherhood at the One Direction: This is Us premiere in London.

The X Factor judge, 53, is expecting his first child with Lauren Silverman, the married wife of his friend Andrew Silverman. (The couple, who have a 7-year-old son together, reached a divorce settlement last week.)

Simon has been mum for obvious reasons, but on Tuesday he couldn’t contain his excitement any longer.

“I’m proud to be a dad,” he said. “It’s something I hadn’t thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it.”

His position is in stark contrast to his thoughts on fatherhood back in 2009.

“God, no, I couldn’t have children,” he said. “If I had them here drawing on the walls I’d go nuts. You’ve got to be up at a certain time. Get to listen when all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking.”

Is it possible the notoriously harsh judge, famous for reducing hopeful entertainers to tears, is … softening?

Of the boy band — all former X Factor contestants — Simon said, “This is like a dream come true. I feel like a father.”

And later, he acknowledged, “Things are changing in my life right now for the better.”

Simon, we hardly recognize you!
