SNL Kicks Off With Tina Fey, Cecily Strong, and Six New Faces

cecily-strongLive, from New York, it’s Saturday Night Live‘s 39th season.

The mainstay comedy show kicks off this weekend with Tina Fey hosting, six new cast members, and featured player Cecily Strong joining Seth Meyers in bringing gender balance back to the Weekend Update hosting desk.

Tina appeared with Arcade Fire — who have a new album coming out October 29 — and also spoofed her Emmy’s wardrobe malfunction in promos for the premiere.

Tina’s former Weekend Update co-host Jimmy Fallon will be dropping by as well.

Seth Meyers sounded pretty excited on Twitter about the new season, too.

Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O’Brien, Noel Wells and Brooks Wheelan join the SNL cast this season. These performers — all with significant experience in some combination of sketch, ensemble, improv, and stand-up comedy — step into featured roles on a show that has lost popular players Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Andy Samberg over the past two seasons.

I’ve been a regular SNL viewer for many years, and although it doesn’t always hit the highest comedy mark, I still tune in for its moments of comedy greatness, so I’m hoping for some good things from these new additions to the cast. I’m also excited to see some of my favorites again, like Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kenan Thompson (who doesn’t love the “What’s Up With That” guy?)

However the rest of the season turns out, it really doesn’t get any better for me than kicking off with Tina Fey, so I’m making sure to watch. Here’s a look at the new cast members, plus some more fun stuff about returning featured players, and the new Weekend Update team.
