Taylor Swift Calls out Harry Styles, and One Direction Responds

Harry Styles stops to take photos with excited fans after leaving the Burberry store on Fifth Avenue in New York CitySo everyone pretty much knows by now what they are getting into when they decide to take Taylor Swift on a date. It has become a thing. But she’s so talented and fun, it’s worth it — at least the likes of John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Harry Styles think so.

As fans, we couldn’t love her more! The all-access pass to her love life via her songwriting is half the fun.

So when she accepted her MTV VMA for the song “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and dissed Harry Styles with, “I also want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is, because now I got one of these,” we were all like, “She went there!” and “Oh no she di-int!”

BUT THEN it got even cuter. One Direction responded in a characteristically adorable fashion. In an interview with Vulture’s Darla Murray, Liam Payne was pretty funny: “When she said those things about Niall, we were very, very pissed off,” he joked. Then Niall Horan said, “I was so upset that she would go writing songs about me after all we’ve been through.”

And in a quintessential response that is a succinct reflection of our time, Liam said, “Hashtag get over it.”

Harry himself remains ever the gentleman. He smiled and nodded during Taylor’s speech because he knows (by now) if you can’t stand Taylor’s heat, you have to get out of Taylor’s kitchen. Ahem.
