Having an opportunity to speak to Tim Gunn was the highlight of my week. We instantly connected over our mutual appreciation of plaid. I was surprised to find out that there is, indeed, a “plaid story” for Tim. There was a time in his life when he shunned mixing textiles, but someone
insisted pushed him to try it and he has never looked back.
We spoke about Baileywick, the character he portrays on Sofia the First, an animated TV show on Disney Junior. I asked him about his thoughts on the kinds of toys that are available and marketed to young boys and how to encourage creativity in our kids. As a proud Uncle, Tim had a lot to say about kids and I found his insights incredibly thoughtful.
Tim also showed off a stunning coffee martini that was made from the fancy Nespresso machine perched next to him.
Everything you think Tim Gunn is: kind, thoughtful, clever, funny? He is all of those things and more. My only regret was not having enough time to talk to him about designers and plus-sized clothing. Hopefully we will get a chance to talk again!
