The 9 Worst TV and Movie Moms We Love To Hate

I am intrigued and horrified by the Carrie trailer. Starring my favorite Julianne Moore and Chloe Grace Moretz and coming out just in time for next Halloween, this remake looks promising. (Where “promising” means terrifying and hideous.)

Carrie’s mom? Not the greatest. While you nervously wait for Julianne Moore to give you an example of what not to do, let’s reflect on some of entertainment’s best worst moms. With the bar set this low, you should be feeling like mother of year right about now. Take a look!

  • Sarah Linden from The Killing 2 of 10

Linden is as bad at being a mom as she is good at solving murders. She full-on neglects her son and would rather pursue psychos than move to Chicago to be near him. Don't feel bad about serving macaroni and cheese again, Linden always "makes dinner" out of vending machines.

  • Estelle Costanza from Seinfeld 3 of 10

George's mom is the worst. She nags, she is weird about her bra, she has no "inside" voice, and she flaunts her dating life in George's face when she and Frank are having problems. Ugh. Poor Georgie.

  • Lori from The Walking Dead 4 of 10

Lori from The Walking Dead has her moments, but generally she's snippy and neglectful when it comes to mothering. Also, her somewhat slutty behavior may or may not have gotten her into a situation where her own son had to kill her before she turned zombie. Kids these days.

  • Norma from Bates Motel 5 of 10

Are you watching Bates Motel? AMC's creepy new series is a prequel to Psycho so telling you that Norman's got some mommy issues isn't exactly a spoiler. Norma Bates (what else would her name be?) has good intentions but terrible instincts when it comes to mothering her son. They love to curl up in bed together, for instance. She's played to perfection by Vera Farmiga.

  • Narcissa Malfoy from Harry Potter 6 of 10
    narcissa

Narcissa Malfoy does what's right in the end, aiding Harry Potter once she finds out that her son Draco is still alive, but she does initially sort of hedge her bets for a long time by choosing evil over good. Not cool, Narcissa. Not cool.

  • Betty Draper from Mad Men 7 of 10
    madmen

Betty Draper is all about appearances, but when it comes right down to it, she's kind of mean and seems to hate being a mom. Don't be like her, if you can help it.

  • Dumbo’s Mom 8 of 10
    dumbo

Mrs. Jumbo sure loves her son Dumbo, but she needs to control her temper instead of giving free reign to her elephantine rage! She was labeled crazy and chained up, leaving Dumbo to fare on his own. And the seeds to alcoholism are sown.

  • Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development 9 of 10
    lucille

Selfish, unreliable, always drinking and never concerned about the welfare of her children, it's like Lucille Bluth has never even HEARD of What to Expect When You're Expecting.

  • Katniss Everdeen’s Mom from The Hunger Games 10 of 10
    everdeens

I know she's a bereaved widow and everything, but Mrs. Everdeen needs to get it together. She's a healer, so she should know about and have access to meds. You can't just check out whenever you feel like it, Katniss's mom.
