True Blood's Joe Manganiello on His Appreciation of "The Thong"

Joe Manganiello attends the premiere of HBO's 'True Blood' at ArcLight Cinemas Cinerama Dome in HollywoodI think we can all agree that Joe Manganiello, who plays werewolf Alcide Herveaux on True Blood, is the embodiment of male hotness.

Those brooding eyes. The scruff. The willingness to suffer for his art — as he did so well by donning a thong to play Big Dick Richie in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike.

In the October issue of ELLE magazine, Joe confesses that his Magic Mike costume — specifically the thong — gave him a new respect for what women go through in the wardrobe department.

“Yes, they’re insanely uncomfortable,” he says, “But women do a lot of uncomfortable things for for men — and I appreciate it all. I appreciate high heels. I appreciate thongs.”

Not many guys can speak from such perspective.

In the interview, he also reveals his first crush: Princess Leia from Star Wars.

I think many guys grew up with that one, but not all of them can say that they’ve had the honor of  meeting Princess Leia in real life.

“I actually met Carrie Fisher a couple of years ago,” says Joe. “When I told her that she was my first crush, she insisted that we get married and have a reality show about it. I’m lucky to have made it out of that weekend without getting married.”

You can’t blame a girl for trying.
