What does Gwyneth REALLY Think of Stella McCartney? Plus 12 other Celeb Best FriendsSuzanne Jannese
Where would we be without our best girlfriends? Personally, I don’t think I would be as sane as I am without the help of my girlfriends, who I turn to about every aspect of my life. This very day, a chat with one close friend completely turned me from a sad, confused grouch (or is that Grinch?) into a cheery, clear-headed, resolved being. For me, the best girlfriends are those who are loyal, trustworthy, smart, funny, and great to share a martini with.
Turns out that actress Gwyneth Paltrow looks for similar qualities in her buddies. In her latest Goop mail out, she celebrates collaborating on a small capsule wardrobe with designer and friend Stella McCartney. In describing Stella, she writes, “Sometimes in life you get a girlfriend who becomes like a sister. Someone who really sees you. Who is as honest with you as they are loving. Who shares a similar world view, who has similar values. Who also happens to be hilarious and a bit naughty and is constantly trying to get the balance of everything right, just like you are. Who is also one of your favourite designers ever, who has a ruthless eye and makes perfect, perfect things. Stella is that girl and so much more.”
None of my friends (sadly) can rustle up a nice blazer for me, but no matter. I value them for the same reasons that Gwynnie values Stella. I reckon my female friendships are without a doubt, the rock of my life — every bit as valuable to me as my marriage and my family. Because really, as Gwyneth says, the best of friends are like family anyway.
So, in celebration of female friendships, check out all the famous women with their besties below. Turns out Stella has quite a few!

Oh, there's Stella again! Liv Tyler has been great mates with Stella for ages, attending Stella's wedding in 2003. After Liv's wedding, I remember seeing a pic of Stella and Kate Hudson calling at Gwyneth Paltrow's NYC apartment and finding she was out. Best mates Cara and singer Rita Ora were rumored to have fallen out, allegedly ignoring each other when attending various festivals this summer.
