Why Kelly Clarkson Loves Being a Stepmom

Kelly Clarkson looks bright and bubbly as she leaves the BBC Radio 1 studios in LondonOkay, she’s not officially a stepmom yet — Kelly Clarkson’s set to marry her music manager boyfriend Brandon Blackstock this October in Nashville. But they’re already living with Brandon’s two children, a 12-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son.

“We all live together and everything,” Kelly, 31, told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show. “It’s so different, but it’s perfect. They’re awesome, and I actually really dig the mom thing.”

But just because your stepmom is a touring rock star doesn’t mean she’s easygoing.

“I’m quick to go, ‘I told you not to touch that!'” she said. “We all work really well together, but I’m totally my mom. My mom was a hard mom. I’m probably that mom.”

As if a wedding weren’t enough — Fun fact: Kelly asked The Voice judge Blake Shelton to officiate — Kelly has been touring with the also-engaged Adam Levine and recording a Christmas album. The same girl who couldn’t wait for her wedding day now admits that she’s “so over it.” Just the lead up, and the stress — not the relationship.

The new family she has with Blackstock is indeed the good part. “It’s just easy. It’s work after a year and a half that puppy phase [is over] and reality starts to set in but it’s fun work,” she said, “We’re very similar. It’s easy.”
