To say that Isla Fisher’s life is not normal would be an understatement. The 37-year-old actress is on the April cover of C Magazine, a California lifestyle magazine. Within her cover interview she talks about just how unusual her marriage can be.
“It’s definitely not a normal relationship,’ she explained. “You know there have been times in the past with the guerrilla style film making of Borat and Bruno where there were surreal conversations: ‘How many people are suing us? Are you wanted in any states? Are you alive?’”
She has been married to transformative actor Sacha Baron Cohen for three years and together the couple have two children: Olive, who was born in 2007, and Elula who was born in 2010. Isla decided that before marrying Sacha she would convert to Judaism. In her C Magazine interview Isla talks about her love of being Jewish, “I love the focus on family, food and laughter.” She continues to explain, “I didn’t get to go to university because I’ve been acting since I was a kid. So, for me, studying theology was also fascinating. I love Judaism.”
Isla also talks about how her priorities in Hollywood have shifted since she became a Mom. “I breastfed both my kids for two years so, you know it was very tiring emotionally and physically. I’m not sure I’d want to do another lead at this juncture in my life. It’s why ensemble pieces are so attractive to me.”
Recently Isla went on a trip to Brazil as an ambassador for the UK-based global charity Save the Children. The Daily Mail reports that the purpose of the trip was to “meet families who are taking part in a pioneering, long-term breast-feeding and milk-donation program. Run by the Brazilian government, it has had a huge impact on infant mortality, helping to slash death rates of children under five by 50 per cent.”
Isla will soon begin her promotional work for the delayed release of The Great Gatsby. Isla plays Myrtle Wilson, who is Tom Buchanan’s mistress. The film, directed by Baz Luhrmann, also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.
