Your Daily Entertainment Advent: December 18th!Dresden Shumaker
Welcome to the Babble Entertainment Advent Calendar! Every day between now and Christmas, we will treat you with fun facts and information about this day in entertainment history.
There must be something in the stars on this date as some of the most powerful celebrities were born today. Brad Pitt is FIFTY, Keith Richards is SEVENTY, Katie Holmes is THIRTY-FIVE, and Christina Aguilera and Steven Spielberg are ages that don’t feel like they need to be in all caps (33 and 67, respectively.) This is one birthday party I would love to be invited to.
On December 18,1966 Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas aired for the first time on CBS. The animated story has been a holiday classic ever since. The song most of us associate with the film is “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” and it is sung by voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft. Thurl is best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger. Now that you know this you will find yourself oddly expecting a bonus line to the song with Thurl trilling, “Heeeeeeeee’s great!”
Happy Anniversary to Wonder Woman! On this day in 1976 Lynda Carter made her debut as Diana Prince/ Wonder Woman on ABC. Of her iconic role, Lynda told Esquire: “I chose to play Wonder Woman as a regular person. The costume and the action took care of three quarters of it. You don’t have to act like Wonder Woman.” These days we are all focused on Gal Gadot, the next actress who will don the star-spangled leotard. If I was Gal I would call up Lynda and get some tips!
In two years we will be celebrating the release of Star Wars: Episode VII. Alan Horn, the chairman of Walt Disney Studios made the release date announcement saying: “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.”
