Welcome to the Babble Entertainment Advent Calendar! Every day between now and Christmas we will treat you with fun facts and information about this day in entertainment history.
I grew up watching a lot of game shows. Hands down, the game show host with the BEST name is Wink Martindale. Today the actor and host turns 79. Wink hosted eleventy billion game shows in the ’70s and ’80s. This compilation of his work is amazing.
Falcon Crest is on my list for top five best theme songs for a TV show EVER. They really don’t make theme music like this anymore. The evening
soap drama about a family in the wine industry aired for nine seasons on CBS beginning in 1981.
Joan Bakewell, an English journalist, followed the auditions, rehearsals, and opening night of Les Miserables in London in 1985. Opening night was exactly 28 years ago. In this nine-and-a-half minute segment, Joan takes us into a world of Les Mis that is completely captivating and spellbinding. It is so surreal to hear someone talk about the music of Les Mis as if we have never heard it before! Watch Joan Bakewell’s television segment.
Let me see you smize! Tyra Banks, the supermodel, actress, inventor of unusual words, and creator of America’s Next Top Model, turns 40 today. Booty Tooch on this: Tyra has been branching out into the tech world. Tyra has invested in Locket and Flixel, a photo editing app available for download on iTunes.
The number four is a pretty big deal to Jay-Z. The hip-hop artists turns 44 today, on December 4th. Just a few days ago Jay-Z released his first ever fragrance, GOLD JAY Z. Huffington Post shares, “the rapper and entrepreneur reportedly rejected 3,200 names before settling on one that was just right. He picked up one of the bottles saying, “this is the sh*t; it’s gold.”
