If you haven’t read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, you should. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
It’s one of the best books ever. It’s about a young girl named Liesel Merminger in Nazi Germany, and it’s narrated by Death, who was very busy at the time. Once you read the book, you will be in the same position the rest of us find ourselves in right now. There’s been talk about the book becoming a movie for a while now. It really should be a movie. It’s a great story. But now it’s actually a movie, and there’s a trailer out and everything. Book lovers all over the world are ecstatic, yet tentative.
Will the movie do it justice? Will the movie ruin the story as imagined by me? Will the book be forgotten by dummies who go to the movie and don’t even know it was first a book? (Book lovers hate that last one, especially.)
Well, it looks good to me. It comes out November 15th (there’s still time to read the book) and stars Geoffrey Rush and Sophie Nelisse.
