Your son wakes up in the middle of the night, screaming that his ear hurts. You give him some Tylenol and tuck him back in. And in the morning he seems mostly fine. Is it an ear infection? Aren’t kids supposed to get fewer of them by the time they’re in school? While it’s true that ear infections (acute otitis media), the most commonly diagnosed illness in young children apart from the common cold, tend to taper off for kids after age 4 or 5, that doesn’t mean they don’t ever happen.
