Packing for Baby - Traveling tips and checklist

You may have become a pro at diapering and feeding your baby in the comforts of your own home, but what happens when you’re on the road and suddenly realize you’ve forgotten baby wipes or bottles? If you’re one of the many families who will be traveling this holiday season, here are a few packing tips to put your mind at ease.

  • If you’re the type who’s always buying last-minute toothbrushes at the airport bookstore, some planning in advance will go a long way. A few weeks before you travel, start a list of what you use every day so you know what to include when it’s time to pack.
  • Use a baby bag that has a shoulder strap or two back straps. These models can leave your arms free to carry your infant or lug enormous bags around. Make sure that it has waterproof lining.
  • If traveling by plane, pack an extra change of clothes for yourself as well as anything your baby might need for one day. Lost or delayed luggage is inconvenient and frustrating in itself – with a baby in tow, having no clean clothes or essential supplies could be disastrous.
  • If in a car or train, it may be helpful to have an extra shirt for yourself within easy reach for a quick change after messes.
  • Don’t forget any necessary medicines or general toiletries. Pack them all in a resealable plastic bag to prevent leaks.
  • If baby’s fast asleep in your room but you can’t sleep, a small clip-on light for reading without disturbing your baby may come in handy.
