Twinkling Paper Lanterns – Todd Oldham’s craft ideas for homemade gifts
Make twinkling lights with Origami.
Isamu Noguchi was a master of origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. Fold your own origami paper cubes that glow over twinkle lights.
- Parchment paper
- Roll of paper
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Small string of white twinkle lights

Cut parchment paper into 10 inch squares and fold diagonally corner to corner and crease.

Unfold and crease corner to corner again and unfold.

Fold the paper in half and crease. Gently push the folded corners down and in, forming a triangle shape.

Fold the outside points of the triangle upward and crease:

:And repeat on all sides.

Fold the outside points inward as shown.

Tuck the triangular points at the top and bottom of the diamond into the openings of the side triangles and crease. Repeat on the other 3 points.

Make as many lanterns to match the number of lightbulbs.

Find the hole at the center and blow lightly into it, like blowing up a square balloon.

Ask an adult to slip the lightbulb into the opening at the center of each lantern and push it in until the lantern stays on the cord. For safety, make sure the lightbulb is not touching the lantern directly.
