25 Amazingly Tiny Houses

By Jaime Morrison Curtis |

Some people have chosen to live out their childhood dream in a tree house while others have found a way to keep their life on the road. You couldn’t knock this lifestyle if you tried because they are all saving money, helping the environment and seem to be completely happy (if not happier) with their choice. Although I don’t think I could ever do it (my fabric alone would take up 3/4 of the house) a part of me is very envious of their willingness to downsize. Do you think you could make the big move to a tiny home? Check out these 25 Amazingly Tiny Houses and then decide…

I love these small houses. I build dollhouses, so to me, these are absolutely delightful. I absolutely hate cookie-cutter houses and my biggest peeve right now is the two- or three-car garages always facing the street and dominating our neighborhoods. As far as I’m concerned, any house designed so the garage door is visible from the front is just a common tract house, and I don’t say that in a nice way.

I also love that when you design a small house, you have to be creative in order to get the same amenities of a larger house. I am a house plan addict and it kills me to see the generic house plans offered today: kitchen, eating nook, dining room, living room, family room, three teeny bedrooms, a couple of baths and of course, the two car garage, over and over and over again. The architects are all playing it safe; there is no one pushing the edge of house design today for ordinary people who may only be able to afford stock house plans. And God forbid we try to build small with small appliances. Even when somebody does occasionally scale down, the houses, though cute and serviceable, all look the same and are all built one on top of the other, pushed together so they can be in “communities”. These little houses here are unique. That’s why seeing them brings a smile to my face.

This is an interesting article, but it is probably the poorest presentation I’ve ever seen and is not user friendly. I completely quit after trying to see the first row of pictures.

  3. Jonathan says:

I like how you’re like “i don’t know if i could do this” to a lot of those beautiful little houses… kinda insulting to the people that worked so hard to make them, no? All i can say is stop being a wuss. You would if you had to. :P

I like the Tiny houses. I worked in the real estate market for many years….this is great. I love, love, the Moroccan house…the materials are beautiful…and it looks warm and cozy…..my style.

CAN YOU SEND ME MORE INFO ON THE IKEA HOUSE AND THE CONTAINER HOUSE?

  9. JW says:

Got to go with Marcia… The page tries to be too hip and artistic. Nice pix but a real pain to navigate on my 19″ monitor (not mobile). There is no article to go along with the minimal pix info. I too stopped after the viewing the first few slides.

Reminds me of a little place called Itsyville in central California near Salinas. Neat wood work but I don’t think you could actually live in them.

  11. AnchorBayTile says:

The architectural world as a result of the green building trend that is gaining steam everyday is starting to stand up and take notice of these smaller footprint homes

I am on a reg computer w/ a 21″ screen. More than half the thumbnails are red x’d out. So is the link to “all 25 houses” plus the related posts. If I can’t see the pics what good is this article? I’m gone.

Wonderful ideas but a poor presentation. Click on one, hoping to see further details, and wind up getting the same page in a different presentation. Had 7 tabs open and saw nothing other than the original page pics. But I loved the pics! Great “thinking outside the box”!

  15. Token Tom says:

Very cool! I’ve lived in several converted school buses over the years and I know you can live in a small space very comfortably. I had more fun and more freedom when I was on the road than I do now maintaining my houise and all my vehicles. Reminds me of the Grateful Dead song “Truckin’!

  16. Brenda says:

How can I get more info on the “Little Boxes” row houses? They are so cute, but there was no info given about them and no pictures of the interior. Thank you.

  17. ccrider says:

I love the small house idea. Tho only for one or two people. If two you would really have to be crazy about each other.

  18. RM says:

So interesting and great photos! But really need to rethink the layout here. No way does the average user (me!!) have the patience to reload the entire site and scroll halfway down the page for every single picture. Can’t you use an actual slideshow function?? Too bad.
