40+ Decorating Ideas – Boutique Hotel Style

Whenever I look for decorating ideas, besides going to blogs and magazines, I often will search out unique boutique-style hotels for inspiration.  These smaller hoteliers have the money and the means to seek out unique interior designers and artists to add a unique flair to attract their patrons.  In the past couple of years I have collected quite a few, writing about them when I find them.  Here I’ve gathered some favorites (40 plus) in a slide show in hopes to offer some decorating ideas or maybe even to inspire a trip somewhere.

Beautiful sheepskins made from Gotland sheep, which are an amazing charcoal grey colour. Ikea now carries something similar.

The Hotel Furillen in Gotland Sweden situated in an abandoned limestone quarry on Furillen Island, a small island connected to the famous island of Gotland. Surrounded by an almost lunar landscape, the hotel is housed in the old industrial buildings. As well as the hotel, they also have an airstream caravan which can be rented too, along with hermit cabins which are situated in the surrounding woodland.

Great chairs mixed with salvaged retro signage. A locally run hotel since 1959, was refurbished by Lake/Flato Architects in 2005 transforming the structure into a model of modern design and livibility while maintaining the original hotel's bygone feeling of leisure.

    Hotel Azucar, Tecolutla, Veracruz, Mexico
The Hotel Azucar has to be one of my favourite hotel styles. Love the laid back feel to these rooms, with the driftwood as a headboard, the white sheets, which exudes tranquility and relaxation.

The Maison du Nord is situated in Allinge on the northern part of Bornholm, Denmark. The house consists of three charming apartments which can be rented or in combination of. We love their kitchen idea - using just a single shelf, with a basic black framed shelving unit on the bottom. Click on the next image (third row 4th from left) to continue viewing the slideshow.

  • UXUA Casa Hotel, Trancoso, Brazil 29 of 45
    UXUA Casa Hotel, Trancoso, Brazil
UXUA Casa Hotel is a hotel that is not a hotel. Instead, it's a part of a small and remote fishing village in Trancoso, Brazil. Portuguese adventurers, Indian settlers, and even Brazilian hippies have influenced in some way the architecture, art and antiques that make each casa a unique expression. The emphasis is on luxury, but that luxury is rustic, without pretension, and with careful attention paid to the natural environment. Local craftsmanship and recycled and organic materials are used whenever possible, making it a standing history of the village. Fallen tree trunks are carved out to form sinks and baths and showers, recycled wood and local waste-iron form bathroom fittings; roof tiles are restored from old farmhouses, local ceramics cover floors and are used for décor. uxua.com

    El Cosmico, Marfa, Texas
Another reason to visit Marfa, Texas, El Cosmico by hotelier Liz Lambert and her management company Bunkhouse have created a community hotel of sorts with 20-30 restored and renovated vintage trailers. Many of them beautifully varnished down to the original wood and decorated with unique light fixtures, vintage table & chairs and lovely tex-mex style rugs and blankets.

    Hotel Anemi, Folegandros, Greece
Back in 2008 I wrote about the headboards in a hotel in Greece called Hotel Anemi. The idea of creating a large photo canvas as a headboard or wall art still works well even almost 4 years later. Love this look combined with their choices of modern furniture.
