I just returned from visiting family in the south of France, including my very French seven year old nephew, Alex. My daughter had the brilliant idea to bring her Franco cousin a very American phenomenon: a pack of Silly Bandz. And so she selected a “boy friendly” hot-off-the-press baseball themed pack. And while he was momentarily fascinated by the transforming shapes, he lost interest fairly quickly.
I soon realized Alex’s accessories of choice fell into the surfer/skate border category, and I remembered these new Cool Cuffs for Boys from Ladybugs and Lullabies. I brought them up on my computer screen to show Alex. When I asked—in my broken French—if he liked them, his eyes grew very big and he nodded his head vigorously, and said “Oui, oui, Tata KK!” To his delight, I told him I would send him some when I returned to New York.
Alex is not alone in recognizing the cool factor of these cuffs. Made from luxurious, thick cotton they feature the trendiest and coolest designs for the ultra-hip kid on the block. They have a strong snap closure which keeps it in place (a good thing for a child), and makes it easy to get on and off (ditto). I have to admit I’m a sucker for a skull and cross bone, so the “circle of skulls” is my favorite (and my daughter agrees), but I do find the “ring of fire” style equally alluring not to mention boy friendly. At just eight bucks a pop, I hope they come up with some more designs as I can see these having collectible status. And unlike the silly ones, I’m confident these bands will not get lost in translation.
