I’ve been wanting to change up my hairstyle for awhile now, but as a young 20-something mom, I’m just not ready to chop off my hair in typical “mom hair” style. But having long hair means I typically twist it into a low-lying bun — especially on days when showering just doesn’t fit in my time frame — and it makes me feel so…frumpy. (Although that above three-bun hairstyle is a cute alternative.)
But this weekend I finally got my way-too-long hair trimmed just under my shoulders, adding layers and bangs for a little more style. And. I. Feel. So. Much. Better.
So my new goal? To wear my hair down more often, nixing my hair elastic habit. Of course I don’t have more time for daily blowouts, but I deserve to feel more beautiful. And as silly as it sounds, having pretty hair makes me feel beautiful. Here are 5 must-have products for faster, easier hair:
Paul Mitchell ProTools Express Ionstyle Flat Iron 1 of 6Even when I wear my hair air-dried and wavy, I still need to straighten my bangs. I adore this Paul Mitchell flat iron (which I've been using since 2007 without a problem) because the Express Ion Complex straightens hair super fast, and it heats up in a matter of seconds.
Bumble and Bumbles Surf Spray 2 of 6For a tousled, textured look, Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray is a must-have.
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm 3 of 6Why do I love this smoothing balm? Because it's designed to make hair naturally dry way faster. A time-saving lifesaver.
Ouidad Botanical Boost 4 of 6If your wavy, frizz-prone hair isn't wash-and-go friendly, this is my absolute favorite trick: Ouidad Botanical Boost. Filled with botanicals, anti-oxidants and conditioning aloe, it gives even the most unmanageable hair a polished look without the need of a hair dryer.
Lulus Organic Hair Powder 5 of 6The hardest part about wearing my hair down is the lengthy wash-and-dry process, which is why I love this talc-free hair powder. And unlike other dry shampoos and powders, this one is free of harsh, potentially dangerous chemicals. It's a tad on the expensive side at $30 a piece, but it lasts for years.
Bobby Pins 6 of 6Since it isn't practical to wear my hair down every single day, using bobby pins makes quick up-do hairstyles look more chic — whether you're wrapping your hair around a ponytail holder or twisting your hair into buns.
