The first time I saw one of Kathy Womack’s paintings, it stopped me in my tracks. I was actually driving to my office about seven years ago and caught a glimpse of her brand new gallery out of the corner of my eye. I was already running late and had to battle rush hour traffic to do it, but I did a u-turn and got out of the car for a closer look. The whimsy! The friendships! The wine! I want to be those women.

The talented artist who captures this contagious joy of womanhood and living la dolce vita happens to be a mother of three. You love her even more, don’t you? Kathy Womack admits to living vicariously through her paintings and says, “So there’s this little piece of me that screams to put on some strappy sandals and an evening frock and hit the town, see the girls, have a glass of wine . . . or two. Call the baby sitter and say you might be a little late!”
The celebration of secretly yearning to live a life of leisure was the inspiration for her Women and Wine series. I adore these paintings because if you live far away from your closest friends or feel overwhelmed by the challenges of motherhood, you can glance at one of Womack’s paintings and feel like you’re mingling in undeniable style.
An Austin treasure! Her ‘Oasis’ painting (pictured above) can be found in Collection 4.
