Wizard of Oz Anniversary: Non-Scary Ways to CelebrateMichelle Horton
Seventy one years. Can you believe it? The Wizard of Oz is a timeless, classic masterpiece — both in literature and film — and today marks the 71st anniversary of the first time Dorothy was ever seen stepping into the colorful, magical world of Oz on the big screen. It was a day that changed movies, pop culture and childhoods forever.
You may have noticed that today’s Google Doodle pays homage to the Wizard of Oz, so we too will celebrate by showing you unique ways to pass on the story to the next generation. Since many moms and kids find some of the images in the movie to be a bit frightening (as explained by our Strollerderby blogger, Sandy), all of our picks are more gentle, friendly depictions of the classic characters — even the flying monkeys!
