Ceramic Birdhouses by Stan Bitters

Modernica announced today their new line of ceramic birdhouses by California potter, Stan Bitters.  Originated in the 1960’s, these birdhouses were initially designed in 1959 when Stan was studying at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles.

In 1960, Stan became the artist in residence at the Hans Sumpf Company of Madera in California who at the time was the largest producer of emulsified abode brick.  They continued to sell Sam’s designs until they closed their doors in 2006. Each birdhouse is created in Stan Bitters’s studio in Fresno, California.

There’s a really good interview with Sam over on the Modernica blog here and click here for more info on the birdhouses.
