This week I am lucky enough to escape the summer in the city heat and spend a week out in East Hampton. Two things contributed to make this happen. First my friend, Danielle, invited my daughter and I to her house (our girls are friends from school). And second, not having a full time job anymore allows me the luxury to take as many weeks throughout the summer that I want—no approval from the top necessary. Of course, I wanted to bring Danielle a little something for hosting us.
A few weeks ago we were in Steven Alan (a favorite store of mine which is conveniently, and dangerously, located in my neighborhood.) Both of us were drawn to these fabulous stripe cotton beach blankets, but neither of us purchased one that day. This was a good thing for me, as a week later I popped back into the store and picked one up for my generous hostess. And, me being me, I bought one up for myself as well—in a different stripe pattern of course. This truly is the perfect beach blanket. It’s a good size (60 x 84″) and made from a lightweight and super soft cotton that dries quickly, so it won’t weigh down your already overstuffed tote. Plus, each of the summery stripe patterns are really beautiful. I want to collect all of them, and at $48 a pop, I could justify at least one more for myself. However I would keep it off the sand and throw it over my daughter’s bed instead. See a detail of the blanket after the jump. The other great thing about these blankets is they come rolled up a wrapped in string which makes them gift ready. stevenalan.com
