Few toys inspire imaginary play like a playhouse. And if you want your little ones to imagine their way into an appreciation of modernist design, then you need to know about the brand new line, Modern Playhouse.
Founded by two San Francisco moms—one with a background in sustainable construction and environmental research, the other an artist with degrees from Pratt and Parsons—the collection consists of two way cool wooden abodes and a few smart pieces of furniture, with cute decor items (pillows, bunting) coming soon.
The Wedge house (shown above) features a shed roof, dutch door, and large wraparound window. The Circle house (shown below) is similar, but with a gable roof inspired by Scandinavian fishing cottages. Both are constructed out of FSC-certified timber and plywood.
The furniture offerings consist of a kid-size breakfast nook: a one-legged table that attaches to the wall, and two benches with hollow cubbies below for storing toys/books/treasures.
Both houses and the furniture will be officially on-sale as of September 1, but you can pre-order yours here, starting today. Even better, if you order in the next two weeks you get 20% off. A very good thing, since all this extreme coolness does not come cheep (the Wedge is listed at $1250, the Circle is even more).
Also note that neither of these houses are intended for exterior use, so you’ll need a rather large playroom to hold one. A line of outdoor houses is in the pipeline, slated for launch sometime this fall. We’ll keep you posted.
