For Anyone That's Ever Dropped a Pacifier in a Public Bathroom

gabrielleblair gabrielleblair |

My babies have all used pacifiers at one point or another. For two of them, it was a temporary thing until they found the joys of sucking on their thumbs. For two others, it was a habit that lasted into toddlerhood.

June is 3 1/2 months old and I can’t tell yet whether or not the pacifier is going to be a keeper. If it is, I think I’ll invest in some pretty pacifier clips — like these beaded options from Whipperberry. Chasing dropped pacifiers is not a fun way to pass the time.

What about you? Does your baby take a pacifier? What do you call it — a paci? a bink? I heard in Germany, they call them schmoolas.

P.S. — Whipperberry also makes carseat sunshades that double as baby blankets.

My daughter is almost 1 1/2 yrs. now and has never been interested in her pacifiers. She doesn’t suck her thumb either. There are a good handful of people in my family that never sucked their thumb for some reason or another.

My children both had ‘dummies’ as we call them in the UK and they were a huge help to calm and send them off to sleep peacefully. These beaded pacifier clips do look lovely, but I can’t help wonder if they pose a hazard to little babes, especially as the clip is metal and the beads look very small. But then again I may just be an over anxious mummy! Have you checked out a ribbon clip or a wooden clip with bigger beads?

Or this gorgeous one by Anne-Claire… http://www.childrensalon.com/product_info.php?cPath=104_3748&products_id=9091

    “schmoolas”? LOL, it’s Schnuller! http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnuller

I don’t know how to spell it, but we usually called them Schnullies. (I think that spelling is an example of my Germlish.)

I had issues with my son sucking his thumb all the time, but he cried so hard when I pull his thumb out of his mouth. All he loves to do is suck his thumb. We’ve put all these things on his chemicals and home remedies…but no success.

I then just thought I would give up; I figured he isn’t hurting anyone and that was his security blanked. Then I asked his doctor about it and he told me all the bad things that can happen as far as his teeth are concerned & its stops your chin development!

He told me to look at adults with no chin form and that most likely means they sucked the them…

So I searched online and found these pair of gloves…he loved wearing them & after a couple of months he has stopped sucking his thumb!

hihi, i think the german word you mean is “schnuller”. the official term is “beruhigungssauger” (literally translates to pacifying sucker)- which is obviously too long and too german to actually use it. so yes, schnuller is very commonly used :-)

oh, and somebody already mentionend that…
