Forget About Kate's Engagement Ring: What About THE DRESS?Michelle Horton
As soon we heard about the Prince William engagement to long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton, the world went gaga over the engagement ring. But people — let’s keep our eye on the real issue here: the dress. It’s always about the dress.
While we made some style predictions here, Brides.com asked top wedding designers to create looks especially for Kate. From regal to modern to semi-scandalous, 17 different gowns were created for the future princess. Here’s what they came up with:
Reem Acra created an ivory-colored, silk A-line gown that pays tribute to traditional royal dresses as well as Kate’s simple, elegant style. With a high neckline and lace sleeves, it’s “a regal and timeless gown fit for a modern princess.”
Amsale designed a “subtly beaded Alencon lace gown” with cap sleeves, a ballerina neckline and an extra long train. According to Amsale, “the gown is reflective of Kate’s young, fresh style with a nod to tradition.”
Priscilla of Boston suggests this French Alencon lace gown that’s “ultra-feminine, richly-detailed…and embraces her youthfulness and elegance.”
No one will be looking at Kate Middleton’s engagement ring in this gown by Watters Brides. Created after Kate’s slim silhouette and typically plunging necklines, this V-neck dress is made from Chantilly lace that shows a little bare skin without being too sheer. Too racy for a royal wedding?
Alfred Angelo designer Michael Shettel designed this silk gown with a draped bodice, pleated sleeves and rhinestone-studded waistband.
Engagement ring? What engagement ring? St. Pucci designer Rani Totman wanted to design a “modern and sexy [dress]…with a traditional bridal look,” so he created two looks: One with a silk/satin pleated inlay and hand-embroidered overskirt adorned with Swarovski crystals; the other with a ruched silk skirt and cathedral train.
