French Newspaper Mâche Elephant

I’ve been seeing a lot of paper mâche animals in stores lately, have you? West Elm carries a few, there’s a few on Etsy, and then today I ran into these cute ones from Restoration Hardware.  I hadn’t seen an elephant yet, and since I’m particularly fond of these ivory-tusked guys, I was instantly smitten. These ones are handcrafted by artisans in Haiti using recycled paper, recycled steel wire, and arrowroot starch glue and then covered with a layer of white french newspaper. I love the idea of one in a nursery, maybe even a whole set, but could also be easily transferred into a hall or living or dining room.  They’re from Restoration Hardware’s new baby and child line and also come in other safari-themed animals such as antelope, giraffe, zebras, etc. See a few more pics of how they can be styled below.

A perfect little collection for a nursery, these little animals will grow with baby easily. (Love the white on white on white!)

Not only for the nursery, this collection would look great on a feature wall in a hall or living room. Make a collection of the entire gang, which look even more stunning with wooden frames placed behind each one as shown above.

These safari-themed herds are available online or in catalog only at Restoration Hardware.
