Hold Your Horses

Or rather, let these horses hold your place.

Illustrator Felix Doolittle’s family loves to read, so he set out to create bookmarks that adults and children would love. They feature original watercolor paintings in a range of motifs, but my favorites are the ones that peek out playfully from the top of a book and feature a little surprise beneath. You’ll see what I mean…

  • By the Pond 1 of 8
    By the Pond
A pond scene above, sticking out of a book, reveals a fantastical underground world below.
  • Garden Visitors 2 of 8
    Garden Visitors
These butterflies are so delicately drawn, reminiscent of vintage natural history figures.
  • Temple of Trees 3 of 8
    Temple of Trees
A beautiful selection of trees. The middle (a weeping willow, I believe) is my favorite.
  • Wild Kingdom 4 of 8
    Wild Kingdom
This bookmark comes from a set that also features monkeys, owls, a whale, and elephant, and an ostrich.
  • Ikutan 5 of 8
This friendly little guy is a good reading companion, wouldn't you agree?
  • Cat and Mouse 6 of 8
    Cat and Mouse
This cat and mouse duo seek each other out above and below the top of the bookmarks.
  • Equestrian 7 of 8
Perhaps my favorite of the bunch, I just adore these illustrations.
  • Pride of the Ranch 8 of 8
    Pride of the Ranch
And if you prefer your horses presented in a straightforward manner, this is the set for you. My little girl would love these.

Each set of bookmarks sells for $20 from Felix Doolittle.
