Laundry Room Must-Haves
Here are seven things that will make doing laundry easier and improve the quality of your clothes:
Stain-removing product. Spray onto all spots before washing.
Regular detergent. This should be your favorite, everyday detergent for washing most clothes.
Bleach: detergent with bleach and oxygen-based bleach. Use detergent with bleach only for your loads of whites that you want to brighten. To go white the green way, use a small amount of oxygen-based bleach in your white load.
Green detergent. Great for baby clothes, delicates, or all of your clothes if you are wary of the chemicals in regular products. Make sure the green detergent you choose has the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) seal to ensure its credibility. And check the label for little or no additives.
Softener. Either use dryer sheets cut in half to reduce the risk of the oil spots they can get onto clothes or toss in two clean tennis balls for the green way to soften.
Spray bottle of water. If you forgot about your clothes in the dryer and now they’re a wrinkled mess, you don’t have to run them through the whole drying cycle to get rid of creases. Instead, mist the load with a spray bottle of water and then run the dryer for just five minutes. Ah, much better, right?
Drying area. Ideally you want a drying rack and a rod with wooden hangers so that you can both easily air-dry clothes straight from the washer and prevent wrinkles by hanging up clothes from the dryer.
