How to Create the Perfect Personal HideawayJacinda
This past year my house has had quite the makeover. We’ve tackled the playroom, the guest room, the living room, and the kitchen, and we’ve decluttered pretty much every nook and cranny. It’s so nice to see the place have a fresh, new look, but honestly, one of my favorite parts is my little hideaway in the bedroom. This chaise I had my friend at Spruce Upholstery recover was originally meant for the living room, but once I realized how nice it was to have a nook in my room, I wasn’t ready to give it up.
So what goes into creating your own hideaway? Well, I’ve learned a thing or two as this space has come together.
Here are a few steal-worthy tips for creating a space of your own:
1. Make it cozy
The chaise pictured here is a perfect piece of furniture to lounge on, and the blanket draped over it creates that extra comfy feel. If you don’t have a chaise, you can set up a favorite chair in a blank corner, and make it cozy with pillows and linens. I also love a good fur throw.
2. Make it inviting
I like to think that when I enter my bedroom this little nook just calls my name to come relax. I find a space to be inviting when it has bright colors and interesting decor pieces, like the mirrored side table. It can draw people in immediately. However, if you prefer dark colors, go with that! Pick a color scheme that strikes your fancy. Remember that the most important thing is to create a space that’s uniquely you — a place where you’ll want to reside.
3. Make it neat
There might be toys scattered around the house, and the kids may be running back and forth, and the kittens scurrying about, but this hideaway provides a place where I can stop for a second to group my thoughts. It sits near a window so I can look out on the yard, and when the kids are at school, it’s my place to come and read a book.
You don’t need a ton of space to make a hideaway — a simple corner is fine. Have fun with your decor, and consider putting together a mood board to help you picture it before you start to move furniture around. Think of it as your little getaway right in the heart of your home.
