How To Look Good While Playing in the Sun

Hopefully you’re able to get outside and enjoy some summer activities while the heat lasts — whether you’re playing frisbee at the beach or just some backyard family games.

But with heat and humidity comes major beauty issues, like frizzy hair, shiny skin, and melted-off makeup. (Sweat-smeared eye makeup is not a pretty sight.)

Here are my 10 favorite beauty tips to keep you looking good while out in the summer heat:

  • Wear less products 1 of 10
    Wear less products
The more layers of makeup you wear, the more that's going to melt off your face. Try swapping your heavy foundation for a multi-tasking tinted moisturizer — such as this brilliant formula from Laura Mercier that comes in a beach-bag-friendly compact.

  • Use a primer 2 of 10
    Use a primer
A little oil-free matte primer will keep your makeup looking fresher longer. If you're wearing eyeshadow out to the beach or pool, an eyeshadow primer keeps colors from fading.

    Opt for oil-absorbing products
If your biggest summer makeup problem is your super-shiny face, switch to oil-absorbing skincare products when out playing in the sun all day.

  • Waterproof everything 5 of 10
    Waterproof everything
If you're planning on splashing in the pool or just running around and getting sweaty, remember to wear waterproof mascara! (Maybelline Volum' Express One by One is my favorite mascara of the moment.)

  • Look for silicone 6 of 10
    Look for silicone
Laura Mercier told Allure magazine that products with silicone in the ingredients will prevent the formula from melting in the heat.
