Hunter Wellies: An Essential Summer Staple

It’s been a hot, dry summer so far in NYC—unlike last year. But this week we had a couple of days rain and even some downright downpours (and more predicted for next week.) Because it has been so sunny I was caught of guard by the wet weather and found myself having a summer soaker shoe dilemma. Anything open toed, even rubber flip flops, are not my thing when the sky opens up and the streets of NYC release all their pent up dirt and debris.

On the first rainy day, I saw an incredibly cute pregnant woman sporting a black eyelet dress—by the way, rainy summer days are the perfect time to bust out your black warm weather attire— that hit just above the the knees, and a pair of perfectly worn in black Hunter Wellies. After my initial pang of jealousy over the fact she was pregnant, my next thought was “Duh. How could I have forgotten about my Hunters?!” I own two pair, one in the traditional green and, the other in—wait for it—black. These boots were my go to shoe last summer when it seemed to deluge nearly every day.  They look super cute with a dress (as in the aforementioned pregnant gal) and shorts—think Kate Moss at Glastonbury music festival. And even in the most muggy of summer storms I find my Hunters completely comfortable despite the fact they are rubber.

No summer wardrobe should be without a pair of the Original Hunter Wellies. happens to have the a ton in stock right now so you can secure a pair to help you stay dry and stylish in the next storm. While you’re on the site, check out all their other great accessories, some of which my fellow style blogger Alyssa wrote about.  And, check out what I’m planning on pairing my Wellies with in the next summer storm.  See a sampling of colors after the jump.

Pick up a pair in this bright, cheery yellow, and relive those rain slicker days of childhood. $125.

Another cheery choice (and super chic, too) purple is the perfect pick me up for a neutral wardrobe. $125.

When in doubt, go for the original green wellie. It’s a classic that’s perfect for weekends in the country. $125.

All you downtown downpour dodgers will look right at home in these in glossy graphite. They are a slicker version of the original. $125.
