Mom Jeans: Not What They Used to Be

Mom Jeans. When you say those words, it conjures up images of your mom in her high waisted Lee jeans with tapered legs. Or maybe you can only picture the Saturday Night Live skit from a few years ago. But now, with Heidi Klum and Angelina Jolie as our aspirational moms, the picture is beginning to change. The term “Mom Jeans” is taking on a whole new life… and it’s a far cry from the years past. See ten celebrity moms in their mom jeans today on Babble.com to see which celebs hit it right on and which missed completely. And read on to see my suggestions for your own “mom jean” look.

There’s a few things that I tell my clients to look for in an all around great jean for those of us non-Heidi Klums out there. Because now when you shop for jeans there’s an array of “crazy washes” as I call them, and jeans so low that you can forget being able to kneel down at the park, so it’s hard to know where to begin.

So I recommend a dark wash with no whiskering (those faded lines around the crotch area) or faded thigh area, a little bit of stretch, and unless you have abs like Gwen Stefani then a slightly higher rise that keeps you sucked in preventing the dreaded muffin top.

For a skinny jean, I like these from Gap.com. Gap jeans just keep getting better…

For a boot cut jean, I really like these by 7 for all Mankind… And don’t feel like you need to wear them long with heels, you can hem them to wear with flats!

And for straight leg jeans, I like these by Citizens of Humanity
