Sharpie: The Stylish Marker for Every Occasion

By Cathy Hale |

If you hear the word “Sharpie” and you only think of autographs, shame on you! Beyond a reliable signature or scribble, Sharpie markers are the inexpensive tools you need to give your child an extra reason to smile at lunch, create a DIY masterpiece or just…well…doodle. In fact, Rachel Ray is a big fan of the burgundy Sharpie as it made her “In The Bag” list of faves in the June issue of Marie Claire.

I was flipping through a magazine today when I had my “Ah-Ha” Sharpie moment. I saw the ad pictured left and it just made perfect sense. My kids are young, so I’m always looking for something fun to do with their lunches when they go to school. I’m usually rushing around in the mornings – throwing lunches together at the last possible minute – so this is a great idea. Sadly, I hadn’t thought about simply decorating a sandwich bag until I saw the ad. I can already see the expression on my kids’ faces as they look for the funny drawing from mommy. You just need the Sharpie Twin Tip Marker because it easily writes on surfaces like sandwich bags.

If you haven’t explored the kingdom of Sharpie lately, I encourage you to take a look. You’ll be blown away by all of the different styles and color options. They have a marker for every occasion! If you’re a fan of DIY projects, you will absolutely fall in love with the creativity featured on the Sharpie blog. What people can do with a Sharpie will make you rethink your definition of doodling. Wow.

Different brands of sandwich bag are made of different kinds of plastic. We use two brands, and Sharpies write well on one, but terribly on the other. If this tip doesn’t work for you, try a different bag brand!

After seeing the havoc and destruction created DIY style by many kids on the blog, I think Sharpies (which, don’t get me wrong, I love them and they are pretty much a requirement for me in my job in the film industry) will be banned from the house for awhile… or at least securely locked in my craft room!
