Soul Bird

By Nicole Balch |

This handcrafted oak bird is a beautiful object, but it also carries a beautiful sentiment.

It was believed the Sielulintu [Soul Bird] protected a persons soul at it’s most vulnerable; when dreaming, and it was tradition to keep a carved wooden bird by the bedside to keep the soul safe during sleep.

What a beautiful gift this would be to someone going through a difficult time. These birds are also believed to transport the soul to a newborn baby, or to carry it to the afterlife upon death, making them appropriate and thoughtful symbols for many occasions both joyous and sad.

Soul Bird is available from Sanna Annukka for £120.
