About six months ago I made a big mistake. I let my four-year-old daughter have a Pop-Tart. Not a fancy schmancy organic one, or one made of whole grains or even one that was home made. Nope she had a sugar covered classic Kellogg’s Pop-Tart, and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen her that happy.
We generally don’t stock our pantry with treats like that, but now that she has had a taste, she wants more. And sadly, less sugary or healthier options – which we have tried – aren’t doing it for her. She has a very fickle and discerning pallet. Thankfully we live on the West Coast and the Kellogg Pop-Tarts World store that opened this week in New York’s Time Square is thousands of miles away.
What is Pop-Tarts World you might ask? It’s a 3,000 square foot place of worship honoring the Pop-Tart. At the store you can order Pop-Tart “sushi,” customize your own pastry or mix and match your fav flavors in a custom box.
There is a café where you can get such new and unique offerings like “Ants on the Log” (celery, peanut butter and raisins), Fluffer Butter (marshmallow between fudge), Sticky Cinna Munchies (cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese icing) as well as the before mentioned Pop-Tart sushi which is a “combination of three fruit varieties rolled together in a fruit wrap and sliced to look like a sushi roll.”
This isn’t the first Times Square hot spot dedicated to a single treat. Already doing a brisk business are the M&M and Hershey stores. And if you think that Pop-Tarts is an odd treat to honor, think again. The toaster treat – which has been made for about fifty years – is extremely popular with about two billions Pop-Tarts being sold each year!
But if you can’t make it to New York to go to Pop-Tart World yourself, they have an online shop where you can buy t-shirts, make your own custom box or order limited edition flavors. Check out all the action here…just don’t tell my daughter!
