Target’s logo is, for lack of a better, less cliché phrase, right on target! The bright red bullseye is literal, but eye-catching and easily identifiable with the Target brand. According to Target.com, 96 percent of people recognize the logo (which is higher than those who recognize the Nike Swoosh and the Apple logo)! Impressive. However, company logos change over time, or at least often undergo some form of reinvention. For example, Starbucks recently evolved its logo for 2011. Is Target next?
Target’s bullseye logo was last updated (rather, simplified and modernized) in 1968 when Target expanded cross-country. Hmm…so it has been a quite while since there have been any changes! And in 1999, the well-known Target bullseye dog, an English bulldog named Arielle, made his first appearance.
Well I’m all for the saying, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” And Target’s logo seems to be doing quite well for itself as is. But who knows? We’ll definitely be watching Target to see if they have any plans for logo-reinvention in the near future. You can find out more about the company’s history here. It’s actually pretty interesting!
